Simpson Desert
The Simpson Desert – The world’s largest parallel sand dune system
Tour dates See our calendar for details.
The first white man to view the Simpson Desert was Charles Sturt in 1845 when he discovered and named Eyre Creek. Ted Colson first crossed the desert by camel in 1936 followed by Cecil Madigan in 1939, but it was not until 1962 that Reg and Griselda Sprigg and their young family accomplished the first crossing by vehicle.
Experience the real outback with Red Earth Expeditions. Follow in the historic footsteps of many great Australian explorers and encounter the remoteness endured by those who journeyed here in the past.
The price, for this self catered tagalong tour, covers two adults and one vehicle. It includes pre-trip planning and preparation, all camping fees, Desert Parks pass and a two course dinner per couple at Birdsville.
